Booking a rug pickup and delivery service should take one phone call or one form, a few minutes of preparation and some patience while the work is done. This guide follows a rug through every stage of rug cleaning with pickup at Bakers Rug Service in Kendall, from the first conversation to the day it goes back under your furniture, so you know exactly what to do and when.

How Does a Rug Pickup and Delivery Service Work?

A rug pickup and delivery service collects the rug from your home, cleans it in a workshop and brings it back, so you never have to wrestle a heavy rug into a car.

If you have been wondering how rug cleaning pickup works in practice, here is the whole journey at a glance.

How Do You Book Rug Cleaning With Pickup?

You book by phone or through the contact form, and the call goes fastest with a few details ready.

Have these on hand:

  • Size: length and width in feet, noting whether your tape measure included the fringe.
  • Material and type: wool, silk, Persian, Oriental or Turkish. "Not sure" is a perfectly good answer.
  • Known problems: pet accidents, spills, odors, fraying fringe, loose edges, holes or moth damage.
  • Add-ons: a custom-cut non-slip pad, moth proofing or an appraisal while the rug is out of the house.
  • Access: gate codes, stairs, parking limits or building rules.

Free estimates are part of the service, so use that first conversation to ask what your rug is likely to need and to settle any optional repair before work begins. Knowing the scope early also tells you which turnaround window to plan around.

In a condo or high-rise, ask your building manager whether vendors must be registered in advance or a service elevator reserved, then pass that along when you schedule. Our guide to rug care in Miami condos and high-rises covers other building-specific issues.

How Do I Prepare My Rug for Pickup?

Preparing a rug for pickup means clearing it, emptying it, separating it from the pad and recording its condition. Work through this list the day before:

  1. Clear the furniture. Lift chairs, tables and other pieces off the rug and carry them. The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) advises against dragging furniture over a rug's surface.
  2. Move the rug the gentle way. To shift a large rug, CCI suggests rolling up a short section and pulling gently with both hands instead of grabbing one edge.
  3. Empty the pile. Run a hand across the rug and along the fringe for coins, earrings, pins, toy parts and pet toys. Anything left in the pile can easily go missing.
  4. Separate the pad. Lift the rug pad out and set it aside. CCI recommends vacuuming the underlay and the floor itself from time to time, and this is the easiest moment to do it. If the pad is flattened, crumbling or sticky, mention it when you book.
  5. Keep it flat and dry. Don't fold the rug, and never roll up a rug that is even slightly damp. If it got wet, read how to dry a wet rug and act the same day.
  6. Photograph it. Take dated photos of the whole rug, front and back, plus close-ups of stains, wear or damage. The California Department of Insurance notes that photos are especially helpful for items that are hard to describe on paper.
Valuable or antique rug? The California Department of Insurance notes that most policies provide only limited coverage for jewelry, collectibles and fine arts, and encourages scheduling antiques so they are covered at their appraised value. If your rug may fall into that group, ask about appraisal services while it is out of the house, then talk with your insurer.

What Happens to Your Rug at the Shop?

At the shop, every rug is washed by hand, individually, and never machine cleaned.

The work follows five steps:

  1. Expert inspection. The rug is checked for dye stability, stains and structural damage before any water touches it. That order matters: the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) warns that water exposure can cause dye bleed and transfer that may be irreversible.
  2. Deep dusting. Embedded dry soil and dust come out first. CCI compares that grit to sandpaper grinding away at the base of a rug.
  3. Hand wash. Gentle pH-neutral solutions are worked through the pile by hand. pH-neutral means the solution is neither acidic nor alkaline.
  4. Repair and detail. If you asked for it, this is when fringe repair, edge rebinding or hole repair happens. Rebinding means rewrapping the long side edges of a rug, called the selvedges, so they stop unraveling.
  5. Controlled air drying. The rug dries in a climate-controlled environment to prevent mold and shrinkage.

For a closer look at why this differs from a machine-wash line, see hand-washed vs. machine-washed rugs. Every service, from pet stain and odor treatment to color restoration and moth damage repair, is listed on our rug cleaning and repair services page.

How Long Does Rug Cleaning Pickup and Delivery Take?

Most rugs are cleaned and returned within 5 to 7 business days, and complex repairs take 2 to 4 weeks.

JobTypical turnaround
Cleaning5 to 7 business days
Complex repairs2 to 4 weeks

A few points help you plan around those windows:

  • Book ahead of deadlines. If you want the rug down before hosting the holidays, a move-in or a home showing, count back from that date.
  • Scope sets the clock. Complex repairs are what move a job into the longer window, so settle the repair scope during the free estimate.
  • Drying takes time. Every rug is air dried in a climate-controlled environment before it comes home, because a rug laid down damp invites mold.

Where Is Rug Cleaning Pickup and Delivery Available?

Rug cleaning pickup and delivery in Miami runs from the shop at 8723 SW 132 St in Kendall and is complimentary throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Neighborhoods south of the shop, such as Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay and Homestead, are served the same way as homes farther north in Broward and Palm Beach. Wherever you are in the three counties, the steps above do not change: book, prepare, hand the rug over and plan for the turnaround.

What Should You Do When Your Rug Comes Back?

When the rug comes home, put the pad down first, lay the rug flat and lift furniture back into place rather than dragging it.

These habits, drawn from CCI, EPA and AIC guidance, help it stay clean longer:

  • Pad first. CCI suggests an underlay that extends to the edge of the rug; our guide to choosing a rug pad compares materials.
  • Spread the weight. Castor cups under furniture feet help spread the load, and repositioning pieces now and then helps avoid permanent dents.
  • Vacuum gently. Plain suction, slow passes with the pile and care at the fringe; see how to vacuum an area rug.
  • Manage humidity. The EPA recommends keeping indoor relative humidity below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent.
  • Limit direct sun. AIC calls light one of the most damaging threats to textiles and suggests UV-filtering window film.

Look the rug over on delivery day while the details of the job are fresh, and raise any question right away.

When Should You Call a Professional Instead of Waiting?

Call sooner rather than later when a problem can spread or set, because waiting rarely makes a rug easier to clean.

Watch for:

  • A pet accident or spill that reached the back of the rug
  • A musty smell, or a rug that got wet and has not fully dried
  • Loose fringe, unraveling edges or a new hole
  • Irregularly shaped holes, insect casings or debris like brown grains of sand, which AIC lists as signs of pests
  • An heirloom, antique or silk rug, or dyes you suspect may run

These are the cases where a trained eye should look before anything else is tried at home.

When you're ready, schedule your complimentary pickup or call the shop. Share the rug's size, material and any problems, and we will arrange a pickup anywhere in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach counties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be home for the rug pickup?

Plan for someone to give access and hand the rug over: you, a trusted person, a doorman or a building manager. Confirm the arrangement when you book. Mention gate codes, parking limits or elevator reservations when you book. If plans change, call ahead to move the pickup rather than leaving a rug outside, where sun, rain or sprinklers can reach it.

Should I spot-clean a stain before the rug is picked up?

No. Blot up any fresh spill with a clean white cloth, then leave it alone. The American Institute for Conservation notes that water exposure can make dyes bleed, sometimes permanently, so scrubbing with water or cleaners right before pickup can make things worse. A stain left as it is, with a note on what spilled and when, gives the inspection the clearest picture.

What if my rug gets wet before pickup day?

Do not wait for the appointment to deal with it. The EPA advises drying wet materials within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold. Blot out as much water as you can, lay the rug flat in a room with good airflow, and never roll or fold it while damp. Mention that it got wet when you book so the inspection knows to look for it.

What if I am not ready to put the rug back down?

Keep it clean, completely dry and rolled rather than folded. The Canadian Conservation Institute recommends rolling a rug face down, from the top in the direction of the pile, onto a wide tube slightly longer than the rug and covered with washed, unbleached muslin, then keeping it off the floor and away from attics and basements, where heat and humidity swing.

Schedule Your Complimentary Rug Pickup
