South Miami calls itself the City of Pleasant Living. By the city's own description its town center lies east of U.S. 1, while Sunset Drive is the main street of the Hometown District and the Metrorail station sits at U.S. 1 and Sunset Drive. Housing is mixed: Census estimates put about half of occupied homes in detached houses, most of the rest in multi-unit buildings, and around four in ten households are renters.
From City Hall on Sunset Drive, the Bakers Rug Service shop at 8723 SW 132 ST in Miami is about 4.7 miles away in a straight line. The service list covers hand-washing for Persian, Turkish, wool and silk rugs, fringe repair and reweaving, and custom-cut non-slip rug pads for the floor underneath. Every rug gets a condition check before washing, and the contact form includes an appraisal request option.
Rug Care in South Miami
Shared buildings shape rug care here. Census estimates put about 28 percent of South Miami households in buildings with 20 or more units, so for many residents a pickup means working with building management. Ask about elevator reservations and loading areas, and check whether the hard floor under a rug calls for a pad.
Older housing raises a different question. The city was incorporated in 1927, and about four in ten of its housing units were built before 1960. A rug that has stayed in an older home for decades deserves a check for fringe wear, moth damage and fading before it is washed.

Rug Cleaning Questions From South Miami
Will you pick up a rug from my South Miami apartment or condo?
South Miami is inside the shop's Miami-Dade pickup and delivery area. For an apartment or condo, ask building management about elevator reservations, loading areas and parking first. Then phone the shop at (305) 232-3368 or send the contact form, and name the building so the handoff can be planned.
Which ZIP codes do you cover in South Miami?
Most of South Miami lies in ZIP code 33143, and a smaller part of the city falls in 33155, according to Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Those areas also take in parts of Coral Gables, Glenvar Heights and West Miami, so pickups are scheduled by street address across Miami-Dade County. Send your address with the contact form or call (305) 232-3368.
Can you clean or repair a rug that came with an older South Miami house?
That depends on the damage, but both are on the service list. A condition check comes first, covering dye, stains and structural wear. Repairs cover fringe work, mended holes and restored color, and antique and heirloom pieces are included. If you know how old the rug is or where it has been stored, mention it when you reach out.
Do you sell rug pads for condo or apartment floors?
Bakers Rug Service sells custom-cut, non-slip rug pads, which it describes as a way to protect floors and extend the life of fine rugs. If your building has flooring or noise rules, check with management before choosing one, then have the rug size and floor type ready for the shop.
